Educationis a whole dynamic. It is one of the fundamental rights and has become as vital as food, water, and shelter. Governments all over the world keep taking measures to promote and encourage schooling. Organizations working for social betterment also propagate its importance.
But is the purpose of learning the same for everyone?
- The economically weaker section has always viewed it as either unnecessary since they already believe they are doomed, or they peruse it as an opportunity to lift themselves.
- The upper class has considered it a mere process of fitting into their already-built empires. It is the key to being more knowledgeable about the functioning of the world and strengthening the power. The upper-class approaches knowledge as a tool, so knowledge of any subject is crucial.
- The middle class, though, has very different opinions about education. Unfortunately, they have shortlisted a handful of professions and validated their child’s intelligence only when it is about those subjects. Often, any career field, choice of subject or school which is not about those ‘particular’ fields face disregard.
A clearer picture
People from middle-class society are well-acquainted with the importance of education. They are financially capable enough to provide it but are incapable of taking risks. People have categorizedcareer options and knowledge; anything beyond the safe path is blasphemy. Is this approach healthy?
The purpose of education intents to be knowledge and wisdom. To make people wise and capable of performing work to support their families. To make people aware of the world and its functioning. The constricting beliefs of society have converted people into chasing security more than learning. They are striving for theoretical intellect instead of experience and wisdom.
The newer generations are getting misled away from the true essence of knowledge.
Ways to end this concern
Unfortunately, we cannot change people’s perspectives. The task is not impossible but, not completely possible either. All we can do is profess the actual meaning of education to the coming generations and hope to break the cycle. Efforts to change people’s thoughts, as of today, should also be taken. We can only hope and keep trying to build a better world.
Conclusion
The wrong interpretation of the importance of learning and schooling can shape an entire society differently. Responsibly teaching the correct values and beliefs will make the world a better place.
